Let’s celebrate! May is Asian Heritage Month

We’re pleased to celebrate May as Asian Heritage Month – this is an opportunity for us to pause and reflect upon the contributions and achievements of our friends and colleagues of Asian descent.

Since 1990, the U.S. government has designated the month of May as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, celebrating the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the United States. Canada has also celebrated the month since the 1990s and it was officially declared in May 2002 as Asian Heritage Month.

Strength generated from our diverse and inclusive views helps us all participate comfortably and freely in our daily life. This month, let us combat anti-Asian racism and discrimination in all its forms. Through awareness, education and dialogue, we can engage in positive dialogue in celebration of culture, languages, ethnicities and religious traditions.

Asian people have contributed to all aspects of life in our communities, from arts to sciences, to sports, business and government. Let us recognize and celebrate people of Asian descent and its rich heritage and keep the legacy alive for future generations to experience.
